What happens when you combine all three Tajfun equipment categories? – Rock Creek Ranch

On a hot day in July, Tajfun visited Rock Creek Ranch (RCR) near Moscow Idaho to help get some new equipment setup, answer questions and put in a little work with the fellas. The terrain is wheat fields that lead right up to forests and it’s absolutely stunning. The ranch headquarters are right at that juncture and the timber is thick. The impression we received was that RCR owner, Dave, wanted to manage his many acres thoughtfully and yet be a good steward. His goal was to have saw logs to mill for projects around the place, collect a large amount of firewood, create some good animal habitat and have a low impact while doing so. He decided Tajfun equipment was the best for the job and bought one of every category we sell. Firewood processor, forestry trailer and a skidding winch.

THE CREW USED THE GAP 110 FOR SAFE AND RAPID TRANSPORTATION OF TIMBER.

RCR has a Case JX 95 tractor paired up with our Tajfun Gap 110 forestry trailer. He didn’t want to use other equipment that would tear up the road and working areas. The Gap 110 has four very wide tires that are perfect for traction and distributing the log loads. Once hooked up, the crew made quick work of learning the controls and loading it up with some Red Cedar. The Cedar was from a wind storm and had fallen in a tough to access draw.

DAN IS STILL HAVING FUN LOGGING AT 77.

The day prior we had fired up the Tajfun EGV 85 AHK skidding winch and easily decked it on a nice landing. The 85 AHK paired up nicely with the Case JX 95 (75 horse) with pulling power and skidding ability. One of the old hands, Dan, had 40 years logging experience, with all manner of big iron, and was impressed with the pulling power of the 85 winch (19,000lbs @ 3’ a second). We couldn’t believe the zeal and energy that Dan still had at age 77 for felling and limbing trees. After pulling 30’ section of some large white firs up the hill we retired for the day and hit a few cold beverages.

MAGIC HAPPENS WHEN YOU COMBINE THE THREE TAJFUN EQUIPMENT CATEGORIES.

Lower down on the neighbor’s property the crew had been processing firewood with the Tajfun RCA PRO 500. They had one guy loading with a skid steer and two rotating trucks/dump trailers distributing the firewood locally. One of the RCR guys, Jim, had been running the 500 the most and we had a chance to talk about some of the finer points of processing. He had discovered most of the secrets, but there were a few things like the short- split cycle feature or the tape measure in the tunnel for back cutting butt cuts. Some tricks with smaller pecker poles and sorting logs on the live deck were cussed and discussed. About 1 ½ cords of wood can be loaded and sorted onto the feeder rollers using the ratchets, back rails and the easy controls.

It was a great collection of guys who really seemed to have curated all the equipment they needed for serious production with medium scale professional equipment.
